Thecornet comes with an Olds mouthpiece that fits the horn exactly. The Olds bottom caps weren’t with the horn when I boughtit and I found two silver ones and did a blast on a brass one to blend it in. The thirdvalve slide has a new throw rod stop and bumpers to quiet it on the throw andreturnThe plater also did the waterkeys, bell interior, and valve caps andbuttons in gold plate. I put lots of dent work inthis horn because I really LOVE the old Olds sound and it can really play! Thehorn has new Amado waterkeys that make the horn very modern looking. I have tried to capture thesmall dings and imperfections in the pictures (look at the bell tube and leadpipe since that is where almost all of them are). The valves have very little wear and work very smooth! There are NOdents in any of the tubing and as we said earlier, just a few small dings andsome small ripples from removal over the years. The horn has NO missing slide pulls (rare in a used horn). The valves work freely and spring back into place with ease and have new feltsin them. In my opinion it plays as well as any modern procornet! It's in excellent mechanical condition - all the tuning slides worksmoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and requiresome kind of repair.
#Olds cornet serial n full#
It plays full and in tune from the bottomof the staff to the top. It really turned into a gleaming beautythat will play! I have played it a lot and it has a wonderful clear tone, and anice mellow sound (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). I hand polished it and there is NO loss ofthickness of the brass from buffing. The horn was ultrasonically cleaned and then the body was done and theother parts waxed to hold the shine. I use a Pearl and silver mix with clear lacquer to make the bodygleam. After I polished it I decided to hide the wornspots by doing a Satin blasted body and coating it with my custom tinted NikolasLacquer. I played this horn for a while before I decided to polish it andmake it look beautiful again. The horn has been in my personal use for thelast few years and unfortunately, for me, there are too many cornets in mycollection. The lead pipe also has a few dingsthat I didn’t take completely out. It has the originalbeautiful silver plate finish with only a few small body dings and some remnantsof dents on the bell tube, rim, and backbow. But it was still a greatplayer! The logo on the horn says:
#Olds cornet serial n cracked#
